Turns out I'm absolutely horrible at running a group, and I feel badly about it. This little group has a great thing going, but it's nowhere near its fullest potential.
Honestly, I could come up with thousands of reasons for my inactivity-- I'm a student, I'm perpetually drowning in schoolwork, it's been some crazy months for me-- but none of them should be used as an excuse. I'm guilty, and you can hold me to it.
To make matters worse, I haven't done a thing here since the group was handed to me by the lovely
CitrusHigh (formerly known as
Beabeabeatrice). To be quite frank, I feel like a bitch.
However, feeling like a bitch has also brought a different feeling about.
I feel motivated. Especially since my summer break is right around the corner. Things will be different here soon, so spread the word. I'm tired of feeling like a bitch.
Until I come up with an amazing project or contest, I'll leave you with some (hopefully) helpful writing prompts in order to get those creative juices flowing:
Pick ten people you know and write a one-sentence description for each of them.
Take a piece of your writing that you have written in first person and rewrite it in third person, or vice-versa. You can also try this exercise changing tense, narrators, or other stylistic elements.
Choose one noun, adjective and verb. Make them as random as possible. Write a story using these words in context. You can also do this exercise with a fellow writer and give each other your noun, adjective and verb to see what you both come up with.
Grab the 7th book from your bookshelf. Open it up to page 7. Pinpoint the 7th sentence on the page. Begin a poem that begins with that sentence and limit it in length to 7 lines.
What did you eat for lunch? Write a haiku about each item you ate.
Write a 600-word first-person story in which you use the first person pronoun (“I” or “me” or “my”) only two times—but keep the “I” somehow important to the narrative you’re constructing.
Also, another group worth mentioning with some amazing ideas and intentions:
Glory-Be-Project. Check them out; they have an inspiring group running!
I hope this works as some food for thought for a short while. I've got some ideas brewing; keep your eyes peeled for any updates and spread the word!
Happy writing!
